On a beautiful day at La Purisima GC in Lompoc, CA, J.R. fell short of qualifying through U.S. Open local. His first day back in competition did not produce the desired 'outcome', but the experience was as wonderful as possible. With his best friend and caddie Joshua Parrish on the bag, his fiancé Jillian and mother Merilee walking along in support, it was everything he could ever ask for. Feeling the excitement and adrenaline of tournament golf for the first time in 12 months, he was quickly reminded of the reasons why he loves the game so dearly. The process of preparation, the challenge of settling the 'nerves', the discipline of proper decision making and the pure enjoyment of execution.
He will be back out on the course living out this blessing on May 21, 22 at the San Luis Obispo County Amateur Championship at Chalk Mountain GC in Atascadero, CA and Dairy Creek GC in San Luis Obispo, CA. This will be the first time since 2008 that he will have the opportunity to play multiple tournaments in the same month. This should equate to a level of comfortability on the course that he became accustomed to nearly a decade ago, when he was winning championships on a regular basis. He is beyond excited and extremely grateful to have his amateur status reinstated and numerous tournament dates locked into the schedule.
